Giants Training Camp

Active ImageWow, once again, summer is half over and preseason is starting. I hope you have already started going through your tailgating items to get everything into shape. Don’t wait till the last minute, you just might forget something, or worse yet...find that you forgot to wash something after the last game! Oye!  The beginning of the schedule is very kind to tailgaters this year but towards the end, we will be paying the price with long cold nights. We are very big fans for the 1 o’clock games and luckly this year we have 4 of. We're also hoping that the NFL will flex us out of the second to last night home game. Brrrrrr    Should I even mention about parking? Nah, except it’s about $500 on eBay for a season parking pass. That's $50 a game! Yawzers. I’m sure the traffic will be worse but in 3 years, it will be worth it.

This past weekend, we traveled up to Albany to see what the training camp is all about. Albany is about 2 hours north of NYC and a very easy drive to the campus of SUNY Albany. Complete training camp information can be found here . The training session we went to was a little different then normal. The Giants usually play on the lower fields which each practice crew had their own field to practice on. We were lucky enough to see the whole team practice on the University Field instead. The spectators watched the practice from the stands and theActive Image VIP section was on part of the track, which was roped off from the stands.

Shortly after 6pm, the Giants made there way onto the field. They proceeded to do a light warm up before they got into formation to stretch. It seems like many of the veterans players were off on the own side of the field doing there own warm up. Once they finished warm ups, they broke into groups in different sections of the field. After a period of time,  a horn would blow and  the players then switch to a different series of drills. Towards the middle of the practice, they got into 1 big group and started to run some drill plays.  Towards the end when they were finished with the practice, they had a field goal kicking contest between the rookie kickers. It was really cool, watching the whole team get around the kickers and cheer them on.

The first thing we noticed was that Jacobs dramatically improved his explosiveness off the line. I'm not going to get into Eli but Lorenzen is looking really good. We almost want Eli to get benched ;) Toomer still has his sticky hands, and was able to catch pretty much everything thrown to him. Shockey was Shockey, show-boating for the fans - who loved every second of it!!!
